reed in the wind

Extraordinary story about the intricacies of life in Ireland during the early twentieth century. During this time, Ireland was a country beset with turmoil--fighting for independence from the oppressive British government, torn by civil war, rising tensions between the Irish Catholic and Protestant divisions, and a transformation in popular culture as laws on alcohol consumption were tightened and leisure time became a more confined and disciplined affair.

The play takes on the issues of this period in Irish history, as the play follows the story of Michael and Kate Nolan whose lives are forever changed when their parents perish in a fiery death. Ostracized by their community, the siblings' unique relationship is challenged by the web of religious, social, and economic morass of the time. As the Nolan family disintegrates, the characters struggle to survive while seeking the truth - an adventure of the human kind. Written by Joe MsDonald, directed by Tom Holmes.
